I’m going to tell you a true story … and it’s why this Valentine’s Day, February 14th, I am giving a gift to middle managers!
If you have been reading my posts, you may know that I spent 26+ years in communications and for a good portion of that time I was responsible for global internal communications. I can honestly say that for most of the last 12 years or so of my corporate career, helping middle managers develop leadership, communications, presentation and people skills was in my objectives. I actually included those objectives proactively (most of the time) because I saw a big need and a big miss as I visited manufacturing sites and offices across the world.
Underserved
It seemed to me that the people and teams that kept everything going day-in-and-day-out were the least resourced in the company.
I started noticing that the general trainings available to middle managers (if companies even had them) were not enough to help them further develop their own self-awareness and business acumen, e.g. critical things like how to:
- present to a leadership team;
- use their intuition to know their boss, team and next best step;
- look inward to become more self-aware of their own strengths and blind spots; and
- communicate (and story tell) effectively in writing and in person.
And, one of the biggest challenges for middle managers that I observed is sometimes they don’t know what they don’t know in the context of the bigger picture … and they haven’t figured out how to combine their intuition with reason/ logic and company culture to get there. Hey, I was there at one point, too, so I totally get it.
Sadly, each year, despite my good intentions to focus additional resources on middle managers, we made little progress. Usually some unforeseen business objective, crisis, or issue would take priority and we just weren’t staffed or budgeted appropriately to take on anything not related to an overall company business objective.
And now, as I look at companies trying to move to an “unboss” culture, I am fairly certain they are going to find this incredibly important segment of their employee base — middle managers — struggling and perhaps ill-equipped.
My Effort to Help
There’s not much I can do to right that wrong from those 12 years, but there is something I can do today as a leadership coach, intuition teacher and communications consultant.
For one day only — on February 14th — I am going to offer a Valentine’s Day Gift to middle managers in the form of a 25% gift code off for any of my coaching or consulting packages.
Just sign up for my newsletter (in the sidebar) and you will receive the discount code in an email on February 13th. Remember, the code is only available on February 14th, all day.
It can be used on any of my programs or services such as…
- my Clear program which helps professionals develop their intuition …
- or any of my coaching on finding your purpose …
- regaining your energy with life-work balance …
- or making that big change you’ve been considering.
Middle Managers, thanks for keeping everything going day-in-and day-out! I am here for you and I see you!
